Flash in the Pan: Corner

Rain pelted all day. By 10:30, Rose fought a deluge. Lights flashed around the corner.

An accident, she thought.

The row of cars crept. An officer leaned in, almost nose-to-nose, bringing rain.

“Have you been drinking tonight?”

“No, sir!” she said, blinking, brow furled.

“Your car hesitated and weaved back there.” He pointed backwards.

“No, sir. Not me. It’s the rain—recital.” She blew air into his face.

“Go ahead.”

The asphalt appeared greasy; the streetlights shimmering.

This hill is steep

Rose hydroplaned at the bottom, crashing into the cement light post.

“No-o-o…”

Bleak night, altered black.

NaNoWriMo undate:  I know at least one person who can do this in a DAY. My word count to date is 26,846, Day 13. Don’t forget I’m a NaNo VIRGIN (ha ha–sounds GOOD to ME), but, it’s only 8:20 p.m. here. Life insinuates itself, so, I might not be done yet– I have until midnight…

Author: Let's CUT the Crap!

I'm getting a little LONG in the tooth and have things to say about---ouch---AGEing. I believe it's certainly a state of mind but sometimes it's nice to hear that you're NORMAL. I enjoy reading by the truckload. I'm a grandma but I don't feel OLD although I'm not so young anymore. My plan is to stick it out as long as I can on this lovely planet and only will leave it kicking and screaming!

  1. I’m so sorry I have been around your pad lately! Bad, Robin. Bad.

I lost my brother-in-law in a drunk driver crash. This was poignant.

    • Thank you, thank you. Sorry I haven’t been around lately. This this been sapping my energy. I don’t recall the last time I’ve worked so hard. Less than a week to go and maybe I’ll be back to normal in December.

  3. You are doing a fab job with your NaNo!! And this is wonderful. I think you should get credit for the 97 😉

I am looking forward to getting back to writing all the time. This coding malarkey is for the birds. Hope the facelift @ M3 gets the thumbs up. I rather like it. It was my revenge for everything raveling today. ❤ xxx

  4. Hope you reached your goal Tess 😉
As for the story, good one! I’ve seen how quickly an accident can happen – the blink of an eye and it’s over.

    • If nothing else, Ghia, tenacity is keeping me going and I don’t want to not get to the finish line.

Yes, accidents do happen in the blink of an eye. Rain, especially isn’t fun to drive in–at least not for me, but no, this story isn’t real.

Well done on the NaNo, I’ve been watching your progress on there every time I updated my word count and you’re ahead of me at the mo, but I’m hot on your heels! 😉

    • I’ve been watching you too, Vanessa. Hey, I have a friend in there who is brutal. Today is Nov. 21 and she’s almost at goal. Grrrr. It’s uphill, now and I’m almost out of breath (words) but I’m going to get there because I know you’ll be there too.

  7. Tess, great short story…I hope, though, it wasn’t based on personal experience! You’re up to midnight writing? OMG, I’m shamed!!! Way to go…

    • Thanks, Laurie. No, the story isn’t real at all. About the midnight writing, sometimes I must make up for lost time. I rarely stay up so late unless I’m reading but I haven’t had time for that lately.

To say this has been the biggest challenge in my life, doesn’t quite cut it. It’s been HUGE. Maturity has given me wings, and of course all the wonderful support from my blogging community has uncovered the tenacity I didn’t know I had.
