“I don’t want a birthday party.” Grandpa Charlie repeated.
“You think this party is about you?” His wife stared till her eyes crossed.
“Patsy you’re confusing me. Who else is having a birthday Saturday?”
“Most of the family are already en route.” She stroked her knotted forehead. “They want to see you.”
Eyes hooded, Charlie rose from the kitchen table. He hitched his pants and puffed out his scrawny chest. He’d shrunk to five-foot-four but still towered over his wife. Patsy gave a mischievous tug on his suspender. “Any egress plans in your future, Grandpa Charlie?”

He pecked her lips and embraced her. “So you can catch me like at my eightieth?” She laid her head on his shoulder.
“When did we get this old?”
He caressed her ample back. “Speaking of old, when the kids force us into the old folks’ home, we’ll breakout together. Deal?”
“Our own adieu.”

This is great. Amazing how one word can draw such a picture. And we’re all creeping in that direction, aren’t we? Creeping? Pah! More like looking in the mirror and thinking, “Wow! Wasn’t I just twenty something? What the heck happened?” 😉
