Blind or Stubborn?

“What a rotting mess.” Patrick tosses a stone and watches it skip across the water.

“I see you haven’t lost your touch.” Nora stares down the lake, arms wrapped around her.

He sighs and hurls another rock. “Bad idea.”

“Why? We can do this.” Her hands clench.

“This decaying dock is nothing compared to that cabin.”

“Are you blind or just stubborn?”

“I won’t plunk one silver dime into this dump.” Patrick stomps away.

Nora’s eyes leak salty drips. I’m not selling Daddy’s cottage. I’m not. It’s mine.

“I’m done. Coming?”

She stamps her feet. I’ll find a way.

“Nora!”

Author: Let's CUT the Crap!

I'm getting a little LONG in the tooth and have things to say about---ouch---AGEing. I believe it's certainly a state of mind but sometimes it's nice to hear that you're NORMAL. I enjoy reading by the truckload. I'm a grandma but I don't feel OLD although I'm not so young anymore. My plan is to stick it out as long as I can on this lovely planet and only will leave it kicking and screaming!

  1. Tess another brilliantly written piece. I can see the two of them standing there. Love the phrase ‘Nora’s eyes leak salty drips’.

  5. Hard to let something of a loved one’s go. But she might want to patch things up a bit before taking a stroll on that dock. 😉

  7. Nice. Really vivid. I can see a romance novel out of this. There’s good money in that, I’ve heard.

    • You’re full of vinegar today. Good day of work?
Sigh. I can’t post more than twice a week otherwise I won’t get anything done and I do like the weekly challenges. 🙂

      • Well, that’s because you get dozens of comments which you then kindly reply to. It’s one of the many reasons we-all missed you when you traveled.

      • You’re such a sweetie, Jacqui and perk me up. It’s 6:25 pm and I’m all tuckered out already from sitting at my latptop all day. Can’t seem to draw a line I don’t keep erasing. Am better than before my trip but still, must do better…

  19. I love these challenges, writing a story in so few words and you do it brilliantly Tess. I looked at the photo for a few minutes before I read your story, trying to imagine what you might write and I was drawn in immediately as soon as I read your first word. Now I want the complete story please, haha 🙂 Great stuff ❤

    • Woo hoo. Glad I pulled you in. Lots of times I have no idea where I’ll end up. Good thing it wasn’t in the water. Ha ha.
Nice to see you, Sherri. Thank you. You are always so generous with your comments. ❤

  22. Nora should dump Patrick and fix up the cottage, and move into it. So much packed into this 100 words, Tess–character, relationships, history, and plenty of emotion. The story rings true. Great job.

  23. How clever of you, Tess, to come up with that scene based on that photo! I’m with Nora – and I loved all the above conversations about her!

  24. Heartbreaking. And so typical of a man to just ignore her feelings…
    Beautiful little tableaux, once again.
