PALERMO

“Reenie, come back.”

“One minute.” She rummaged inside her shoulder bag and whipped out a digital camera.

“Come on. We’ll miss the train.” His hot breath prickled her neck.

Hands unsteady, she fidgeted with the strap and buttons. “Give me a sec.”  The purse slid down her arm and she fought for balance struggling to take the picture. “Incredible sunset!”

“Please. The train?”

“Hold this?” She checked her shots and grinned.

Face pinched and distressed, he caught her arm and tugged. They dashed to the car.

“Tomorrow, a Palermo sunset. I’ll take my bag now.”

“What?”

A train whistle shrieked.

Author: Let's CUT the Crap!

I'm getting a little LONG in the tooth and have things to say about---ouch---AGEing. I believe it's certainly a state of mind but sometimes it's nice to hear that you're NORMAL. I enjoy reading by the truckload. I'm a grandma but I don't feel OLD although I'm not so young anymore. My plan is to stick it out as long as I can on this lovely planet and only will leave it kicking and screaming!

  1. Holy schmoley. You just dramatized my wife and me on vacation.

  2. Two such different people, worlds apart, living in the same space 🙂
A common thing in lots of partnerships and friendships! I wonder what draws such different people together in the first instance?

  3. Interesting. One busybusy, the other wanting to capture the sunset. One does wonder how long this relationship will last or not grow distant from each other, but still together because it is too much trouble to part and start again.

  4. Forgot her purse? Who would ever do such a thing? 🙂

  10. Oh no, who did she hand her purse too? Tess, perfectly executed as usual. Wonderfully done.

  12. Oh dear…I see myself and hubby here! Always wanting to capture one last shot, hubby taking my bag for me…and he does look rather fetching with it, I might add, depending on the colour scheme of course, haha 😉 I loved this story Tess, really felt the tension in him and the laid-back, photo-must-be-taken ease of her, not worrying about the train because she knew they would make it in time…excellent story 😀 ❤

  13. I would hate that girl! Catching trains makes me queasy – I hate to be in any danger of missing one!

  17. Tess – The first thought that came to mind was she so wanted to capture the picture she held out her bag for holding but wasn’t aware it was not her husband/partner who took it. She thought it was her husband but all of her attention was on getting the photograph.
Just today I read somewhere that the ME generation is so concerned about taking “Selfies” that they are missing out on enjoying the moment they are in. I found that incredibly sad.

  20. That picture was worth her taking the snap. There is always another train, another time but will there be another sunset like that one?

  23. This woman would drive me crazy: I hate being late, or catching things by a hair’s breadth.
Another reason to prefer armchair travel: no bags to lose, no trains to miss 🙂
    Lovely vignette!
