Last week I worked so feverishly to finish my manuscript I forgot to write a blog post for today.

My bad.

But on Saturday I received an email from author and writing coach, Barbara Kyle, wondering if I’d be willing to spread the word about a contest she’s holding.

And voilà, I had my blog post.

Several years ago, Ms. Kyle did a manuscript critique of my first novel.  Every book needs objective eyes to uncover plot holes (if fiction), inconsistencies, and more, and hiring a professional ensures an unbiased eye.

But professional evaluations can be costly, and you can’t always be sure who to trust. The Internet is awash with manuscript assessment services. That’s why word-of-mouth is so important, and that’s why when I saw Ms. Kyle’s email, I was more than happy to share the news.

Author: Let's CUT the Crap!

I'm getting a little LONG in the tooth and have things to say about---ouch---AGEing. I believe it's certainly a state of mind but sometimes it's nice to hear that you're NORMAL. I enjoy reading by the truckload. I'm a grandma but I don't feel OLD although I'm not so young anymore. My plan is to stick it out as long as I can on this lovely planet and only will leave it kicking and screaming!

  3. During the process of writing my memoir, I paid roughly AUD1,700 to three professionals (NOT all at once !) for assessment, and it was money well spent. Unless a would-be author is a genius, this kind of input is vital.
