Poor Old Feet
The kettle shrieked. Lucy shuffled in wearing flip flops and a housecoat. She emptied it into a bowl of Epsom salts set on the floor, and threw herself into the chair. She watched the water fizz. The steam is hot, the humidity’s hell, and the window fan’s a joke.
Impatient, she emptied half her water bottle into the bath, and dipped in a swirling toe, and then another.
Ahhhh.
The screen door slammed. “Battery’s dead. Hop along to town and buy me smokes.”
“I jus’ come from work.”
“Run along.”
“But my poor old feet—I been standin’…”
“What-the… Ow-ow-ow. Hot-hot-hot. You crazy…”
“Your turn. Git.”
The End

Excellent, took me a second but then, I got it.
Now I’m looking at my blistered feet right now, thinking, hmmm, epsom salts might be a good idea. 😉
Another amazing contribution to the 100-Word Challenge for Grownups, can’t wait for more. 🙂
All the best. 🙂

I had to check Epsom salts being good for feet because I couldn’t remember anymore–not clearly and I came across this:

Is this not a handy list? Maybe I will add it to the post. 🙂

Sweetie needs to get off his duff and get his own smokes….and yes, Epsom salts are excellent for all kinds of soaking. I like to use the lavender scented salts in my tub to soak a.l.l. of me. Good write!

I swear by them for soaking an achy body (or feet). When I was a kid the box of Epsom ,& Lysol too, used to list dozens of things they could be used for.
Fun story. Megs hugs!

Ha ha. Naughty, naughty. No, I mean the things on her feet. I wasn’t interesting what she had on underneath the housecoat. 😀 😀 😀

Great story! To clarify, I agree with valentinelogar. Thongs is another word for flip flops, not just for skimpy underwear (which is a thong). Tongs is an instrument with two arms for grasping things. I don´t think she would wear tongs on her feet, but you never know. Tess´s stories are so unique!!

Darned internet. I looked it up first before I used the word. Tons of advertisements for ‘beach’ tongs (with pictures too). Tried Microsoft Word just now. Used flip flops so there’s no doubt in anyone’s mind, but they agree with Val as well. ❤ ❤ ❤

Flip flops works well. She could have done some serious damage to that no good husband of hers with tongs on her feet though!

She dumped the hot water on him! Love it! What a jerk, wanting that poor, exhausted woman to go into town and pick his lazy butt up some smokes. He deserves what he got! Another gem, dear Tess. ❤

You do my heart good, Kate. Thank you.
The ‘man of the house’ wanted to get nasty but I didn’t want him to go there, so I turned the tables on him. Such fun! ❤ ❤

I wish something like that would help my feet. Epsom salts doesn’t even get close to nerves though.
I also don’t do baths anymore.
Whoever was demanding her to go to the store should have been hung up by the thumbs.
