Popping in and Out (Post #450)

Hello, lovely blogging friends!

I’ve been held up doing the rounds since I started poking around a bit yesterday. Thank you for the lovely e-mails over the summer although I avoided my keyboard most of the time. I wasn’t home much and at times my laptop was broken under attack of one kind or another.

I confess the summer vanished much too quickly. Whoosh! You cannot believe the trying circumstances situations I found myself in time and again. Nothing like a little excitement to keep the old ticker going, or more likely, almost squash it like a plum.

IMG_1369

The top three headliners of my summer were:

  1. I got hacked (cost over $200 to clean laptop but no banking information lost and new cards now)
  2. The same tooth abscessed twice. After antibiotics, a week later, again. Had it pulled. Lots of problems afterwards. Ouches.
  3. Windows10 messed up laptop. Best Buy removed and now Windows 8.1 again. Desktop was okay, but Windows 10 messed that up yesterday.

I won’t bore you with the rest of it.

Some pluses were spending a couple days with one sister and a couple more in cottage country with all four sisters.

Now, I n.e.e.d. a vacation. My fourth sister to retire did so in April and when I heard her ‘thinking’ how to celebrate, I was in. Snap! Yeah like that and asked point blank where she wanted to go and I was coming.

We are going to Newfoundland and Labrador soon. Exchange rates for the Canadian dollar are heart-stopping and I’m glad Mary found something domestic. Sigh. A vacation is a vacation—no, she’s not paying… Maybe I should have negotiated that small detail.  *giggles* This sounds an amazing corner of Canada with mind-boggling views.

There you have it. I’ll be flitting in and out for the next week and a half and then take to the sky and away for a couple weeks.

I appreciate all of your welcomes and smiles. Feels like I’ve been away from home, but now I’m back.

When I come back, my worth ethic will change. Instead of clearing the decks (e-mail, blogging, commenting) first thing every day, I won’t get to any of that till much later in the day. I may not be a constant as before, but I plan to visit every chance I get.

What’s with WordPress making unwanted changes again? I don’t like Reader and I’ve noticed now one follows in Reader. Sheesh. Another thing: why makes the menu bar spastic and how does one stop it?

Author: Let's CUT the Crap!

I'm getting a little LONG in the tooth and have things to say about---ouch---AGEing. I believe it's certainly a state of mind but sometimes it's nice to hear that you're NORMAL. I enjoy reading by the truckload. I'm a grandma but I don't feel OLD although I'm not so young anymore. My plan is to stick it out as long as I can on this lovely planet and only will leave it kicking and screaming!

  1. Hope your teeth and computer problems are all gone now. The deck in the photo is lovely–I could sit there with a book and enjoy myself for quite a while. 🙂
    Your upcoming vacation sounds wonderful!

    • Bad tooth is gone and I hate the empty space. Windows10 has been a sneaky devil. Lots and lots of people have had trouble with it. The Geek Guy at Best Buy suggested I wait about three months (till all the bugs are out) before I try again. Sigh.
I think I’ll live, but only because all my wonderful blogging friends–thank YOU–are supportive beyond anything I’ve experience before. ❤ ❤ ❤

  3. Nice to have you back. Thanks for sending me your abscess. I’m thinking of going to Windows 10 and now having second thoughts, I hope you get your problems sorted computer wise. I’m so sorry about the hack but pleased you didn’t lose banking information.

    • No.No. No to Windows 10. The Geek Squad guy at Best Buy said it’s a good idea to wait about three months till Microsoft gets the bugs out. Teagan had a difficult transition with Windows 10 as well.
Yes, I was indeed lucky. What a shock the hack was. I was given a number to call which was posted as Microsoft and the lady I talked to said she was a ‘trained Microsoft technician. I might write about it sometime. I started taking notes because the whole circumstance left me ‘wondering.’

  4. Welcome back, Tess! Great to see you. Ouch on the hack, bad tooth and Windows 10 woes. I’m glad to hear you’re getting a great break of a trip to Newfoundland with your sis. That’s the way to recover!

    • Nice to be back for a little bit. I’m actually smiling now, thank YOU, Mark. Once I get my desktop stripped of Windows10 I’ll be a happy camper. Dollar signs, green-eyes and swinging shapely hips in my face is what scares. 😦 me.

  6. Welcome home, Tess. We missed you ❤ So sorry about the toothaches…they're the worst. Glad to know you have that under control. I've not spent a great deal of time on the blog this summer. Too many other things going on in real life. I was frustrated with some of the changes, but they didn't affect me the way that beep, beep, boop editor did, so I can live with them. 🙂 Enjoy your trip.

    • Thanks so much. Thanks for visiting, Susan.
I don’t know what the summer would have been like without the time booked OFF. I was never home–always running around getting something fixed. Sigh.
I missed you all too. I won’t be around like I used to because I have lots to catch up on. I WILL be around but on a regular basis.
      How’s your newest project coming? ❤ ❤ ❤

      • Since May I have been undergoing a whole lifestyle and diet change that has me engrossed in research and experimenting with health foods. My projects are always in the works with some progress going on at some level. I have a new editor in Ireland who is going over Naked Alliances for me to tighten it up, mostly. He will be editing The Conduit if and when I ever get around to finishing it. Ha!

  7. Welcome back, Tess. Sounds like there was some bad with the good for the summer. Tooth abscess – bad, hacking – bad, Windows 10 – very BAD. I’m avoiding downloading it. But it sounds like you did get some relaxation in – you know you have to pay for that. Cosmic retribution.

    Like

    • *Sigh* How bad is that. Not only does everyone in this live have their hand out for something (rising prices, taxes, car insurance), now the Cosmos is lining up to the bar. What hope have we? 😀 😀 😀
Thanks for your comment. It will all come out in the wash one way or another. I believe we all go through highs and lows. My lows found my hiding place. 😀 🙂 🙂

  10. Yikes–I hate technology some day. My Gmail got hacked even as careful as I try to be. They got by my red flags. It looks like I’m OK. Time will tell. Good to hear your Win10 experience. I haven’t done that yet–I don’t care that it’s free. Why? I fear exactly what happened to you.

    Again, so glad you’re back.

  12. Yikes, sounds like the summer had it out for you. Hopefully things will smooth out for you now, and the vacation sounds wonderful. Yes, WordPress went through some changes with their reader. At first it was not user-friendly, but they seemed to have fixed the glitches. Until they change it again…

  13. Your break and summer sound like The Good, The Bad (computer stuff, arrrgggh, I can empathize) and The Ugly (especially, the tooth stuff, I can empathize with that too, long story), but soooo glad you’re back, Tess!!! I missed you so much! 🙂
Your trip to Newfoundland sounds amazing, I can’t wait to hear about it, with lots of pictures I hope. 🙂
As for WordPress, it’s one of the mysteries of life, their motto seems to be, if it ain’t broke, fix it (aka break it).
    Welcome back!!! Big hugs! 🙂

  15. Good to hear you are coming to a special corner of Canada for a vacation! That should make you forget all the other stuff!
I’ve put Windows 10 on three laptops, and haven’t had a single problem. Go figure…
WordPress – unlike Windows, you can’t wait three months for all the bugs to be fixed. WordPress seems to be bent on creating problems, not fixing them. Did you see the ‘Following Toolbar’ has migrated from the top down to the bottom. It is a ‘now you see it, now you don’t’ thing with options that don’t seem to be very useful to the average blogger.

    Like

    • Can’t wait to see this special corner of Canada, nor for a getaway for that matter.
Change is constant and I try to embrace it (even if I must grit my teeth) because it’s easier than fighting it.
Some people I know hadn’t any problems with Windows 10, others like me, had headaches. *sigh*
Had trouble posting last week because of a moving toolbar all over my words. It was difficult to add a photo, as well because of it. Grrr. 😀

    • I had installed Win10 on my desktop first and everything seemed okay for a couple weeks (I only use it for printing) till it quit, but before that, I installed on my laptop a couple weeks after the desktop. Best Buy removed the dreaded headache from my laptop for free and re-installed Win8.1. The desktop, I had to pay to have removed. I sleep dreaming of $$$ all night. 😀 😀
Wish someone had stopped me but I’d read a couple reviews from bloggers who had no trouble…

What a lovely holiday you’re going to have, I hope you share all as you did with China. Welcome back 🙂

  25. It’s so good to have you back, Tess, but I’m sorry to hear about all the misadventures. You were supposed to be sitting around drinking mai tais and writing your book all summer, and instead, you were obsessing about your sore teeth and battling with the computer bot – not nice of the constellations to align improperly. Go have fun with your sister. What with all your experiences in China, you can show her how to travel!

Sorry your summer wasn’t quite up to par, teeth and computers and hacks oh no Tess this is not the summer one would wish on an enemy let alone a friend. Glad things are getting worked out! As for WorstPress, they will do what they will do. You can still get your subscriptions to your email, just go to ‘manage my subscriptions’ and change the setting. That is what I do. 29. Windows and WordPress:

I have Windows 10. It’s okay. I don’t see many differences between it and 8.1. I do like the Cortana feature in 10 though. My husband doesn’t even want to download it though because the games he likes don’t mesh with 10.

Did stuff change at WP? I hadn’t noticed. The Reader is just another feed. Some people are using regular RSS, Feed Demon, or another RSS software.

I am so glad you’re back, even with the change in priorities. ❤

  30. Nice to see you back Tess … if even for a short while. Sorry to hear about all your trials over the summer. When our technology misbehaves, it is really frustrating. That’s been my life since I got Windows 8 in the spring. For me, Windows 10 has been a relief and I don’t gnash my teeth quite as much. It’s so interesting how we can have such different experiences!

  38. Good to hear from you Tess. Yes, never get the new windows for at least 3 months, they never give the third party software/hardware suppliers enough time to become compliant! If you haven’t had windows 10 for more than 30 days, you can revert back with a few clicks of your mouse. I did it the other day. Just type in your web browser “how to uninstall windows 10” and there are heaps of articles to show you. Hope your teeth are ok, I went to a periodontist recently for similar reasons and the quote for treatment was laid out in front of me in a sound proof room so no-one outside could hear the screams. I know I need the work done and once I get a second mortgage I might find the courage to go back! Enjoy your break!

  48. Hi Tess, and welcome back (um… for now, and then again later 😀 😀 ). I have been on a blogging break as well – and like you, I’ve changed my work ethic. With working full time, I’ve had to figure out a way to conserve my time for writing and limit my reading of other blogs. Otherwise, I’ll never get any writing done! 😀 Still, I’m trying to check in weekly with favorite blogs, and I admit to enjoying your writing so I’ll check in to see what you’re up to.

Another upcoming vacation? Good for you! I’ve got one planned, as well, at the end of October. Cruising the Caribbean again. Can hardly wait.

    Take care, friend.
