I’ve been shanghaied nominated by Willow and Judy to re-blog my first post. Thank you, both. I don’t usually participate in blog hops as I’m always frazzled. Thank goodness this required only five nominees.
A tag started by a blogger/writer called Sarah Brentyn, asking us to revisit our first ever blog posts!
I had begun another blog titled Who Knew but after several months I deleted it due to the friendly spam I received each day. There was no Spam blocker there and no, it was not a WordPress blog. I screwed up my courage and started again on July 2, 2011. Here I remain.
Okay the rules…
Obvious rules:
- No cheating. (It must be your first post. Not your second post, not one you love…first post only.)
- Link back to the person who tagged you (thank them if you feel like it or, if not, curse them with a plague of ladybugs).
Other rules:
- Cut and paste your old post into a new post or reblog your own bad self. (Either way is fine but NO editing.)
- Put the hashtag #MyFirstPostRevisited in your title.
- Tag…um…
tentwotwelvefive (5) other bloggers to take up this challenge.
- Notify your tags in the comment section of their blog (don’t just hope they notice a pingback somewhere in their spam).
- Feel free to cut and paste the badge to use in your post.
- Include “the rules” in your post.
Completely silly rules that someone made up as they typed:
- Drink a glass of wine, bottle of beer; cup of coffee; mug of herbal tea. or whatever floats your boat after you hit “publish”. (In other words, toast yourself. Go you!)
- Read the post out loud in a Mickey Mouse voice.
who to nominate
Hello, World!
Let’s cut the crap! None of us is getting out of here ALIVE (much to my surprise—I don’t THINK so!). I’m making the choice to make the most of it. Hopefully I’ll grumble, whine and complain all the way to…you know where: that last vacation in the sky (none too loudly). You CAN stand out in the crowd and make everyone else miserable OR you can try to look on the bright side. There always is a bright side, isn’t there?
I’m a grandma and keep busy looking after my two grandkids. I read voraciously. I like my bookclubs because they aren’t boring. We eat, drink and talk books (eat and drink are the operative words). I’ve started golfing. I try to exercise although I can’t always manage to squeeze it into my day. I enjoy my friends and family. What else is there?
I’m economical by choice. I get riled when people act like we have nothing to lose. Money doesn’t grow on trees; neither do our seemingly endless resources. Call me cheap if you want to but if you don’t know the value of a dollar by your mid-thirties, in your old age you WILL be poor. How will you survive? Everything keeps going up except for body parts being tugged downwards by gravity. Only two things are certain in this life and even the best of us can’t avoid them: death and taxes.
My quest is to grumble as quietly as I can manage to as Mother Nature disowns me inch by painful inch. I’ll TRY to own up to what’s happening and try to own it but I hope to find some joy into the journey.

I didn’t know if I’d do this or not but after both you and Judy tagged me, well, I thought I’d try. Never even read the post because I know I’d be tempted to ‘t.w.e.a.k.’ What a surprise after reading a few comments. I wrote THAT? Ha ha.

I laughed at the operative words for your book club and yes to money doesn’t grow on trees. We’re from that generation when that was a mantra from our parents. Enjoyable read. 🙂

Indeed. I still pinch pennies. Why waste them for no reason. Though I brought up my daughter alone, she never learned the value of a penny. Have we spoiled that generation?

Awesome first post, second post, or 100th post! I love your sass 🙂
I love the part at the end about grumbling as little as possible while Mother Nature disowns you inch by inch. I’m feeling several of those inches today 😉

Sigh. I know. Mother Nature has no mercy. I’ve come to think she enjoys making us look sideways at mirrors or not at all. Sigh.

Tess, you are a riot. This is a delightful and well composed first post (or even 200th post). I enjoyed it. And I’m unfortunately relating to “Mother Nature disowns me inch by painful inch”…
Thank you for the mention. I will try to take you up on your “dare.”
Have a wonder-filled weekend. Mega hugs.

I can’t stand wasting time going over something that someone doesn’t get. That said, my hearing is going and keep asking for repeating…. Went for test this past Friday and balked at the suggestion I need a hearing aid in each ear. Said I’d need to think about it. Sigh.

I spend an awful lot of time repeating around here….. If the hearing aide helps, I say go for it. You can do what my Grandfather used to do, if you don’t want to hear what’s going on around you….just turn it down. 😉

You are such a special sweetie, Sharon. I posted before reading. I confess I would have wanted to tweak had I read it. I was in some kind of form when I posted this. I’d had another blog previously but I was sooooo spammed and not knowing the program deleted 300 to 400 spams every day. One at a time. Deleted it and wasn’t going to blog again but did on WP and Hello, YOU. Hi Sharon. Had I not, I wouldn’t have had the pleasure of this conversation with you. ❤ ❤ ❤

What a neat idea! Now, I’m wondering what my first post was, which is exactly where I’ll be headed after writing this comment. I loved your comment about knowing the value of a dollar by your mid-30s. I was just talking to my husband about that. Things happen to us all, things we don’t expect, but if you’re 30+ yrs old and still throw your money away and then expect others to dig you out, then there’s a problem.

I so agree. I’ve pinched my whole life and my own daughter who I brought up myself–in the same household–with my words of instruction and she turned out not knowing the value of a dollar. Her gene pool is from her father. I never believed about gene pools but she’s a prime example.

Isn’t it odd how that works? They are taught and shown by example, yet they still do not learn. In our family of 4 siblings, there is one who cannot manage his money for anything, while it’s practically second nature for the rest of us.

Miss Tess still has some snark in that old post (not that it went away or anything 🙂 ). Well, I know someone was going to nominate me for this. *Sigh* I guess I’ll have to play….rubs hands in glee as I think of MY nominees, LOL! So you started in 7/11 (isn’t that lucky or something?)…mine started on Halloween 2011, guess I was done passing out candy that night. Fun stuff!

Shoot. Thanks, Terri. I never thought about 7/11 being lucky or something. Isn’t that the name of some kind of ‘everything’ store? Ha-ha. I tease but your comments leave a little food for thought.
Hope you do join the challenge. I often do not because there are too many details to completing the nomination and it’s too time-consuming. The hardest part is setting aside your nominees and their links. The rest is manageable as far as this one goes. Take your time. We can stretch this out and in the end, it’s fun, too. ❤
